Meticulously maintained, this gleaming example is in 100% original condition, complete with its original deluxe hardshell case, and all factory hang tags and paperwork. And unlike modern Chinese built reissues, this guitar is crafted entirely in Japan, handbuilt by master craftsmen in the famed Terada factory. With its slightly slimmed cutaway body, the White Falcon (Model G6136T) is fitted with gleaming all gold hardware, including twin Filter'Tron humbucking pickups, twin volume controls, master volume and tone controls, adjustable compensated bridge with roller type saddles, and a Gretsch Bigsby vibrola.Ī solid spruce center block runs under the soundboard from the neck to the bridge, but does not touch the back, giving the guitar more sustain and feedback resistance, while still retaining the acoustic resonance of a hollow soundchamber. Discontinued in 1981, the White Falcon has been reissued in various configurations since the late '80s, and remains one of Gretsch's most popular models. By 1962, a double cutaway version made its debut, along with the Bigsby vibrato. A full size 17" thinline guitar, the Falcon was priced at an eye-popping $600, and featured engraved pearl inlay and gold sparkle binding, the latter repurposed from Gretsch's fancy drum material. "They were just starting to feel out what these guitars were," Setzer says. The pickguard is also rather large compared to other Falcons, while the body is neither thick nor thin. Instead of the standard gold sparkle binding, it has gold metallic, which Setzer thinks may have been a factory mistake or just the preference of the worker building it that day. Setzer's '55 is all-original yet has some peculiarities compared to others. It comes from the first full production year of the famous model, which Gretsch showed off at NAMM in 1954 and placed in its catalogs in '55. The vintage White Falcon is not only historic, but a historical outlier. This time, it includes a show-stopping 1955 Gretsch White Falcon, a Gretsch Custom Shop White Falcon masterbuilt by Stephen Stern, and dozens of other incredible guitars and amps. The Official Brian Setzer Reverb Shop is open once more. Turns out, he was still holding some great ones back. When Setzer first opened his official Reverb shop last year-amid all the vintage amps, effects, and guitars from other brands-he put up 34 Gretsches for sale. If you know rockabilly legend Brian Setzer, you know about his love for Gretsch guitars.
